"Hey, can I text you sometime?"
"What's your BBM pin?" "Can I add you on Facebook?"
What ever happened to the days when we actually talked to one another? What happened to the good old days when a boy would ask you to go on date, not use text messaging to ask you out?
Since when has texting,BBM and Facebook taken over as the quality time where we'd get to know one another, where did the face time go?
Now days technology has made us lazy in dating. We don't have to acknowledge messages. We're not forced to interact in conversation if we don't want to. If someone we aren't interested in asks for our number, we give them a fake. If we don't want to go out, we can simply send a text.
In all honesty, texting can be more stressful than the old school method of straightforward rejection or acceptance. When a boy/girl simply told you they weren't interested, we weren't left trying to decipher their text messages looking for hidden meanings, as if it were the Da Vinci Code.
I recently dated a boy who was allllll about the phone. He was a little old school in the fact that he actually called on the phone, and didn't rely solely on text messaging. But it got to the point where I was questioning his integrity. When he wouldn't text back was it because he was busy or because he could use the phone as easy way to brush a girl off? He would send cute text messages all the time, which would frequently blind me to the fact that I wasn't actually dating him...I was dating his phone.
Eventually I took this lack of effort towards face time to mean a lack of interest in myself. So I took the initiative and deleted him from my phone and off Facebook. "Whoaaaaa!!!! That's soooo harsh!" is what everyone said to me when I told them what I did. To me it was an experiment. Would this boy make an effort if the phone/facebook wasn't available, or would he use this as his get out of jail free card, hoping that I'd get the 'hint' when he stopped calling/texting.
He stopped calling...and texting. I guess it was quite the effort.
Maybe I'm a stickler for the old days. Maybe I like a man who will surprise me with flowers rather than a cute text message. Call me what you will, all I know is that a little effort goes A LONG way now days in dating, and a text takes no effort at all.
